Schedule
Typical day is like most medicine programs 7AM-5PM. Scutwork is minimal as is at most community programs. 1 Month Medicine, 1 Month ICU, 1 Month ACU, 1 month ambulatory, 1 Month ICU, 1 Month Night Float and a few more months of medicine electives (consult) required. Allow 1 month away elective. The siginificant thing is that call occurs on electives (Q6-Q12) and is Q4 for the 1 month of medicine.
Teaching
Everyone is very nice and there are lots of conferences. Teaching is a priority and transitionals are not singled out. Your senior residents will be FMG's and DO's however. PD is very nice is caring about your education. Also there seems to be some sort of research focus there even for transitionals (not sure if absolutely required)
Atmosphere
Everyone is friendly and easy to get a long with. Free food of decent quality and generous book budget. You can get a dorm room for around $90/month for the 1 year you are there. What's the catch? You are in the middle of nowhere!! If you are single I'd stay away, there are hardly any diversional activities in the area and Philadelphia is 1.5 hours away. It's definitely a little backward and there are hardly any young people in the area despite your co-residents so it really depends on the class you have. I definitely got the hick vibe.
Conclusion
Pros:
1) Money you made a good take home especially if you get the dorm room (but do you really want to live in a dorm?)
2) People are nice
3) No scutwork
4) Free food (it's OK but free)
5) It's only 1 year
Cons:
1) Call throughout the year ranging from Q4-Q13. Also call schedule is confusing.
2) Middle of nowhere!!!!!!!
3) Residents quality (?) - all depends
4) Facilities not that nice.
So I would apply and check it out for yourself, but this place definitely wasn't for me. I you like to go out to restaurants and bars I would look closer to a major city.
