Schedule
Schedule here is actually not bad during first year, its hectic regardless where you doing residency. Good day with no daytime admission and bad day could be up to 3 daytime adms but average mostly around 1-2 adms.
Teaching
Teaching mostly done senior residents. Depending how motivated you are but training here is quite superior because of pts population and pathology. Very good autonomy and you will feel well prepared and comfortable even after 1st year.
Atmosphere
Average overall
Conclusion
Evaluation of residents for this program is quite bizzar. Positive evals are overlooked but average to little negatives will be big issues. Eval are done by attendings and sometimes can falsely represent residents competent level. Be careful of coming to this program, some attendings are mean and prejudice and can ruin your career on false information. Program provide very little or no support at all. Residents abilities can be falsely determined based on prejudice is a big issue here. Residents are terminated yearly without thorough investigation.
good intern work schedule, no real 'days' off, but you get your 4 24 hour periods off per month.
this place has terrible teaching, its a joke, they are trying to improve it now, but i wouldn't waste my time with this place for alteast a few years until they work out all the kinks
the attendings running the program are mean, and threatening . i want to leave this place!
i made mistake guys, i am trying to leave, but i cna't, and i have another 2 years left here, this place is all smiley on the surface there is alot of mean spirited people around here. avoid it.
Better than most, more electives.
Great teaching faculty from Case.
Good relationship among residents.
Poor fellowship placement. This year SIX internal candidates applied for cardiology and none matched. Specifically none matched internally. The cardiology department does hardly ever takes its internal applicants. If you want cards, I would go elsewhere. Luckily, I want ID or pulm and they take their own.
Schedule is the best part of the program. Reasonable 4-5 calls per month. New night float system for residents which is great.
Faculty are very teaching and approachable. teaching is Intense.
Environment is ok. The patients are difficult to deal with and often frustrating. Noncompliance and drug abuse are fairly common in this county hospital, like most county hospitals. Foreign grads are almost 50%. They are better trained than locals and often MRCP certified in England. The schedule is fair in the sense that local grads are not given any extra privileges.
What stands out is some nice attendings, especially the Chairman who is always approachable and availabe. The drawbacks is the old fashioned style adopted by the program director invoking strict regulations as wearing ties, and sometimes he is hard to argue with. Having said that, he does give way for change allowing the chiefs to innovate in many things; for example, adding night float system. He is resposive to our needs most of the time. The support for fellowship is ok, but American grads get better placing than foreign grads; which is the case in most programs. Overall its a good program to train in Internal Medicine.
i went here as an interviewee and this was my dream programme though second on my list i would have never regretted if i had matched into this programme,PD is and enthusiastic man and he gives importance to education, this hospital has got state of art facilities and i believe it is one of the top IM residency programmes in US today.
Faculty are amazing though my experience was limited for few days when i was there at Ohio, they seemed excellent, the research opportunities are abundant and there are no things which u cannot do here, programme chairman is committed to improve research facilities and research atmosphere inside the programme.
people were nice and friendly most are local lads from around Ohio but some IMGS' Those whom i met were amazing and of very highly motivated and educated and knowledgable type. It is a very nice programme to work in with many perks about 1/4 rd FMGS' in the programme most UK trained Indians
the programme is committed for education and improvement, this programme will keep on improving. There are no doubts in my mind that it is an ideal place for an IMG to train who wants competitive fellowships.
